Frequently Asked Questions

What time should I arrive?
Please arrive at the scheduled time or a few minutes prior. The “hands-on” portion of the session will start after a thorough intake and after the completion of any paperwork. If you arrive late, your session may be shortened in order to stay on time for the next client.

Where should I park?
Free parking is available in the lot behind the building. Please park in any unmarked spot or in one of the three spots reserved for suite 160. Ample street parking is also available within one block. Street parking is metered and costs 25 cents for every 30 minutes up to 2 hours.

What should I wear?
If you are receiving a Shiatsu, please wear loose, comfortable clothing that will stretch and move with your body. Avoid jeans or heavily textured material. If you are receiving a massage, you should undress to your level of comfort. Many clients choose to undress completely. But it is okay to leave underwear on for comfort. The therapist will leave the room as you change and you will always be modestly draped during the session. Please shower prior to your appointment and refrain from the use of fragrances such as perfumes, colognes, scented lotions, etc. If a fragrance is too heavy, your appointment may have to be rescheduled.

How long is an hour?
Many places consider the intake and consultation as part of the “hour.” At the end, you may be left with only 45 or 50 minutes of “hands-on” time. At Massage Geek®, a 60-minute session means 60 minutes of “hands-on” therapy.

Do you sell gift certificates?
Yes. You may purchase a gift certificate online or over the phone. They are available in increments of $75 and $100. There are no cash refunds on gift certificates. Gift certificates do not expire. However, services and rates are subject to change and a previously purchased gift certificate may need to be supplemented with an additional form of payment.

What forms of payment do you accept?
Cash, Check, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express credit cards. Debit cards are not accepted.

What is your cancellation policy?
Please call at least 24 hours in advance if you need to change or cancel your appointment. If you fail to notify Lynn K. Patricia 24 hours in advance, you will be charged for services unless the appointment time can be filled. Definition of emergency for therapist and/or client is illness of self, partner or immediate family or car dysfunction. Email is not a reliable form of communicating a cancellation. Therefore, a phone call is the only acceptable means of cancelling within 48 hours of the appointment.

What is expected of me during my treatment?
The comfort and safety of our clients is of utmost importance. With this in mind, please refrain from the use of fragrances prior to your appointment. Let your therapist know if you are uncomfortable in any way. Please be respectful of other clients by keeping noise levels low while in the hallways and common spaces. During your session, it is important to tell the therapist if you are uncomfortable with temperature, positioning or pressure. Otherwise, feel free to remain silent and center yourself within your body. During a “deep tissue” treatment there is usually more talking about technique, pressure, and location of aches and pains so you can receive the most effective treatment possible. Successful pain management depends on a partnership between you and the therapist.

What sort of training do you have?
Lynn K. Patricia attended CenterPoint in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She completed the rigorous two-year program with over 1100 hours of training in Massage Therapy and Shiatsu. Lynn is nationally certified by the NCBTMB and licensed by the city of St. Paul.

Does the state of Minnesota regulate massage therapists?
Yes and no. The state has no standards of education or practice of massage therapy. However, any practitioner of a healing specialty that does not require a medical license MUST present you with a Client Bill of Rights. This document outlines information about the practitioner: Who they are, what they do, what their training is, and what their business policies are.

Is it customary to leave a gratuity?
It is common in the service industry to leave a gratuity if you are satisfied with your service. However, there is no obligation or expectation to do so.

Is there space to relax and revive after my massage?
New Light Therapy Center has a beautiful waiting room for you to have some quiet time before or after your massage. Complimentary water and tea are available for your enjoyment.

What should I do with my valuables?
Please keep all personal items with you in the treatment room.
