Thank you for this wonderful article. I talk to my clients so often about "easy lengthening" rather than "stretching". I see people every day that over stretch before intense exercise or marathon running, then they come to me so see if I can 'fix' it. I will pass this information on because I like the way you explained it.

Great blog, I typically follow issues I encounter in life for example.

I have a 12 yr. old son who started the 6th grade this year and was having trouble focusing in class. Needless to say his grades were starting to fall fast.

In a conversation with a massage therapist friend of mine I mentioned my son’s concentration issues. She recommended I take him to a craniosacral therapist. I took her advice and I’m glad I did. After only 2 treatments Logan, my son has gone from C’s and D’s to A’s and B’s in most of his classes.

A common issue when babies are born is the trauma their brains go through, his birth was very dramatic he was a few weeks’ premature, he swallowed embryonic fluid and spend his first week in the hospital. He also suffers from asthma.

My husband and I have notice the difference in his ability to concentrate and learn since he had the cranioscacral treatments. I’m sold in the power and science behind craniosacral therapy.

My next CE’s class is already scheduled on… Yes, you guess it craniosacral therapy.

Keep up the great work,

It really is unbelievable how a therapeutic massage can change a persons whole life. Once pain and tension are released are person is actually able to be the happy person they want to be, I don't believe people want to negative or hard to be around. I definitely don't!! Massages are a great place to start, so take the time and make your life better.

I have noticed lately I am greatly influenced by the attitude of my friends. If I'm around negative people I tend to be very negative and vice versa. I am striving to change this about myself. I want to be the happy positive person no matter what and hopefully the negative people will become happy off of my vibe. In this profession it is really easy to pick up on your clients energy as well so I'm hoping I can transfer a happy energy from now on and not take on their negative energy.

I have always believed if you take care of yourself first others are automatically happy. Because they do sense if you're happy or unhappy. Even when people think they hide their unhappiness well people around them can sense it.

Truer words have never been written.
Thanks for your blog

Hrmmm. I do see your point about economy of running, yet it seems possible that it is of benefit to only a minority of people.

In my practice I see much discomfort and damage from "tight" calves and hamstrings, among runners and non-runners. Tight calves in particular seem to correlate with heel spurs and lower back pain.

Just my point of view - I wouldn't encourage the majority of the general public to think tight muscles will make them marathon winners.

My suggestion is to think "ahhhh", not "ouwww". Communicate with your massage therapist. A moist heat pack before deep tissue is often helpful for deep work.

I agree with you loud and clear. Stretch after the event/workout. Research also shows that stretching pre event also leads to more injuries. Making those joints, ligaments and tendons looser before an event takes away stability and healthy muscle tension leading to twisted ankles, tweaked knees, etc.

Stretching in the right way, at the right time has so many benefits that it should be part of any athlete's training.
