Here is a video about the history of chair massage. It is surprisingly fascinating!
Thanks to Mark at www.chairmassagecanada.com.
Mark also alerted me to this little tidbit:
FEASABILITY STUDY
The effect of chair massage on stress perception of hospital bedside nurses
Conclusion?
Incorporating chair massage into a nurse’s hospital shift is feasible and a 10 min session reduces the stress perception of the nurse more so than the standard “coffee break”.

Chair massage is a great massage reliever, and I can imagine wonders it can do for nurses.

Not to be too critical but this doesn’t really say much about chair massage itself. Are there any instructional youtube videos out there on how to actually do chair massages?

You’re right, that was surprisingly fascinating. I love the old-school portable massage chair built by this guy and a cabinetmaker, the entrepreneurial spirit!

Chair massage in the workplace is a great way to actually save employers money. Chair massage can reduce stress related illness and sick leave, improve productivity and increase employee satisfaction. It’s a small investment to have a happy healthly workforce.

At one of the more forward thinking establishments I have worked for, on site massage was provided and it went down a real treat with employees. Staff appreciate the feeling that they are cared for.
